Ultrafiltration(UF) System Module
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a type of membrane filtration in which a liquid is forced through a semi-permeable membrane using hydrostatic pressure.
In order to produce the best drinking water, ROTEK uses a combination of technologies such as RO or UV coupled with UF. This ensures that both dissolved solids and bacteria are removed, while still retaining some of the minerals that are important for human health.
The UF membrane retains suspended solids and high molecular weight solutes while allowing water and low molecular weight solutes to pass through. UF is effective at removing bacteria and microorganisms, but it is not able to remove dissolved solids.
When compared to other membrane filtration technologies such as reverse osmosis (RO), microfiltration (MF), and nanofiltration (NF), UF has a larger pore size and is able to retain larger molecules. The size of the molecules that can be retained by each of these technologies is as follows: MF - 0.1 microns, UF - 0.01 microns, NF - 0.001 microns, RO - 0.0001 microns.
